Dormer Loft Conversion

Dormers are the most popular form of a loft conversion in a conventional pitched roof and they are generally built on the opposite side of the building to the highway to qualify as permitted development but please check with your local planning authority.

A dormer is best if your loft has restricted space & headroom it will also provide the extra space for improved access for a staircase.

Dormers protrude from the roof slope, and the face and cheek of the dormer is usually tile hung to blend in & match your existing roof, internally they will have a horizontal ceiling & vertical walls compared to the normal diagonal sides of a conversion.

Dormers are normally at the rear of the property and can be built in a variety of styles:

The type of dormer will be dictated by not only the size of your existing loft space but also by how many rooms you would like to gain from within the loft.
At William James Construction we can advise you on what type of dormer would suite your property & we will survey your loft to ascertain what can or cannot be achieved and the best way to utilise the loft space.

For more information please give us a call to discuss your loft conversion & maybe even book in for a free, no obligation survey.
